Sunburn, Insect Bites and Stings Treatment – Enjoy you Summer!

Q.  I know preventing sunburn is preferable, but I am wondering if you can recommend treatment for sunburn with natural ingredients?

A. We can recommend the following for sunburn and also have a few suggestions for treatment of insect bites and stings.

Sunburn
Aloe Vera gel is cooling and soothing for sunburn and helps healing. Tannic acid powder dissolved in cool bath water soothes sunburn.

Insect repellants
Orange peel may be rubbed across exposed skin to serve as an insect repellant; lavender and cedar oil are also effective in repelling insects.

Insect bites and sunburn
Aloe Vera is beneficial in treating bites and burns. You can use the gel of an Aloe Vera plant from your home or purchase a gel product (100% organic gel is recommended) from a health food store or pharmacy. Chilled witch hazel, white or apple cider (organic with the mother in it is recommended) may be used to decrease the itching of bites.

Insect bites and stings
Activated charcoal is an effective treatment for spider or other bites and stings. First, remove any stingers. Use clean water to make a paste of the charcoal and apply it to the affected area. A piece of plastic wrap covered with a bandage will keep the charcoal paste in place. (This is also an excellent remedy for boils or pimples.) A paste of baking soda and cool water is an excellent antidote for stings.

Note: If an insect bite or sting creates an allergic reaction resulting in abnormal swelling, welts, difficulty in breathing or signs of shock, obtain emergency medical assistance.

Hair and Skin – Keeping it Soft and Strong

Argan Oil
The seeds of the tree contain rhodium and iridium, which have anti-aging
and rejuvenation qualities These minerals reset the skin to its
youthful properties. It is also very beneficial for conditioning the hair[1].

We suggest reading labels on every product, remembering that what we put on our skin and hair is absorbed directly into our bodies. Use a small amount, this oil is very concentrated. Argan oil can be applied to clean, damp hair (after shampooing is ideal). Apply to the ends of the hair and work up to the scalp area.

Look for the highest quality argan oil:

  • Organic
  • 100% pure oil (no added ingredients)
  • cold-pressed (heat destroys vitamins, minerals, etc)
  • delicate odor – pure oil should have a light, nutty smell
  • dark glass bottle – protects oil from light and oxidization

Is Sunscreen Necessary

Q.Please make a recommendation about skin protection and use of sunblock/sunscreen to prevent skin damage, cancer, etc. Do we need to ‘protect’ ourselves from the sun and damage to our skin.

A. Sunblock is definitely needed until we reach a stage where we no longer are subject to external factors, because we know our body to be an incorruptible, self-regenerating field. It is especially the case for those in our family that have not reached this level of mastery. Sunblock prevents skin damage and possibilities of cancer should loved ones abandon themselves in favor of living according to other’s expectations. So, the answer is a definite ‘yes’, on the use of sunblock. Use products with the most natural ingredients possible.

For children who are getting in and out of the water, we need to make certain that the sunscreen is reapplied per the directions on the label to provide consistent protection. The same is recommended for adults, especially if they are perspiring during the summer heat or with activities – reapply sunscreen. Remember that the rays of the sun reflect off the water and even if feeling cool on our skin surface, the skin can be burned or damaged.

In addition, avoid direct sunlight on exposed and unprotected skin during the times of the day when the sun is most direct overhead (noon- 2 pm). Wear clothing with long sleeves, use sun umbrellas, hats and sunglasses for protection if outdoors during these times.

Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a skin condition in which irregular white patches develop on the skin. Any location of the body can be affected and most people with the condition have them in many different locations. Vitiligo has no known cause but occurs when the cells that give your skin its color (melanocytes) are destroyed.

First of all, we must always ask whether a condition is caused by a bacteria or virus. In this case, it has been found that it is not linked to any known bacteria or virus at all, but is an autoimmune disorder in which the body attacks itself.  Vitiligo is not an infectious condition and so cannot be spread from one person to another.

In addressing its spiritual causes one therefore can understand that there is lack of self-love as it is an autoimmune disorder. Self- love can only be present when there is self-knowledge – hence the tremendous emphasis that we place in our teachings on truly coming home to yourself, knowing what makes your heart happy and following those promptings. Any areas where guilt is felt in the body could create such a condition under specific factors or stressful events such as:

  • Childbirth
  • Damage or injury to your skin (from chemicals, sunburn, trauma)
  • Exposure to chemicals in the workplace or environment

Treatment

  • Strengthening of the spleen through use of Ailgeno spagyric* homeopathic remedy for several months, follow the dosage on bottle.
  • UV light therapy– may reverse the condition if used on a daily basis.
  • Grounding – Use a grounding mat under your bare feet while sitting for at least 45 minutes per day or grounding sheets on your bed. Grounding can also be done by walking with bare feet or wearing non-insulating shoes or sitting on the ground for 45 minutes.

What are *Spagyric Homeopathic remedies?

First developed by the 16th Century Swiss physician Paracelsus, spagyrism represents a form of homeopathy in which both vital healing energy and active substances are extracted from medicinal plants, creating powerful mother tinctures that can be further potentiated. Derived from the Greek words spao (separate) and ageiro (unite), spagyric remedies were originally created by fermenting parts of wild herbs. This process produced concentrated aromatic solutions that were extracted and separated from the bulk plant matter. After fermentation was completed, the plant material was distilled in a special device, and the remainder dried and burned. The ashes were extracted and purified via distillation, then recombined with the concentrated solution. As a result, the finished spagyric essence contained the mineral constituent parts of the plant. Paracelsus pointed out that the vital energy of an herb is more important than the plant material itself. Combining the ideas of Paracelsus with modern manufacturing techniques, PEKANA produces its powerful spagyric remedies using four key steps: separation, purification, incineration and reunification.
