Hormone Balance

What is Causing Fatigue?

Q. I can outwork anyone while sitting at my desk, without fatique. Why is it that my muscles can hardly carry me up a few flights of stairs? It is as though I have stamina, but not the necessary energy for physical activity. Can you please explain?

A. It could be that the muscles are not receiving the necessary supply of energy from your sugar (glucose) intake and metabolism. This first possibility may have to do with ingestion, processing and delivery. Chromium is the supplement that can address the situation if the problem is sugar related. Blood sugar should be tested in the event that you may have a mild form of hyperglycemia/hypoclycemia (instability of blood sugar levels, which can be a precursor of the development of diabetes), or diabetes. Diabetes is a metabolic disorder caused by the inability to make or use insulin, which is a hormone produced by the pancreas.

The second possibility is that it is caused by an imbalance or lack of other hormones. When there are not enough male hormones being produced by the body, for both men and women, and/or the ratio between masculine and feminine hormones is not at optimal levels, muscular strength becomes less. It is important that a holistic doctor tests the ratio and the production of hormone levels including the main sex hormones, estradiol, progesterone and testosterone.  Testosterone is an anabolic hormone (builds tissue) that is essential for men and women; the proper level is necessary for bone health, muscle strength, stamina, sex drive and performance, heart function and mental focus. The main adrenal hormones are DHEA and cortisol.  DHEA is a precursor to other hormones, mainly testosterone, and is essential for energy production, blood sugar metabolism, anti-inflammatory effects and stress response.

The most reliable way to test hormones is through saliva (they can also be measured in blood and urine). Saliva tests determine the active part of our hormones and it is these portions that determine how we feel.

At all costs, avoid being given the hormone replacement therapy (HRT) that is so prevalent at this time. The leading female hormone replacement therapy is made from concentrated horse urine. The horses are kept artificially pregnant, outfitted with a diaper-like container that catches the urine, and from this women are given estrogen replacement.

A very safe way to balance the hormone ratios if they are found to be low is through hormones from plant sources. The progesterone is placed somewhere on the body above the navel at night (on the upper abdomen or inner forearm, for example), and the estrogen compounds are placed below the navel in the mornings (the lower abdomen, for example). When only estrogen is given, it becomes like a delinquent child and causes problems in the body. Plant hormone compounds should never be placed on or close to the breasts and the sites of application should be rotated as the hormones saturate the tissues at the site of application.

Please don’t assume that because you may be of a specific age that you automatically require estrogen hormone replacement.  Many health companies accentuate health hazards in order to sell their artificial products. Saliva testing is the most accurate way to determine what is needed.
